Finding and using an Electrician (UK)?
I'm currently doing some home improvements and will need an electrician.
What's the best way of finding an electrician?
How easy is it to get hold of an electrician?
Whats the average cost of a house re-wire?
Thanks,
Matt
word-of-mouth every time.
Most electricians will be booked a month ahead.
Rewire costs 3-3,500 for a 3-bedder, depending on what is required. cookers, showers, extractors, downlights, o/side lights.
Use either a Part P registered person or notify building control and use anybody, (even yourself)

Check your local buisiness directory but make sure that the contractor is NIC registered
when the job is done request a safety certificate
the average cost of rewiring a 3 bedroom house should be around £1800 with certificates

The 2nd answer is more like the true cost, I doubt that anyone would do it for £1,800 I have pasted NIEC's web addy for you, they have a good post code search thing going on. Incidentally all major electrical work done now, the electrician has to send the final test cert to the Local Authority, anyone who doesn't tell you this is not on the ball.
