When Gary G. Weinhardt of Williamsport enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War, he had visions of being an aircraft gunner, while his buddy Jay Johns planned to become an aircraft mechanic. “Me and (Johns) enlisted together. I turned out to be an aircraft mechanic and he went to gunnery school,” Weinhardt said. Weinhardt enlisted in July 1952.
