What quals do you need to be a self employed electrician?
Im already an electrician on a chemical site and hold NVQ level 3 in electrican engineering, ONC and HNC in electrical studies also. Work believe im fully compatent therefore i dont need C and G quals, but do i need these if i wish to go self employed at a domestic level?
I should add that this is for UK only.
In Canada, you MUST have journeyman status to work as an electrician. This involves classroom instruction as well as on-the-job training and then two years as an apprentice before you can write the exams to obtain status as a journeyman.
Since you're currently employed and not a licensed journeyman, I can only assume you're working under another electrician's ticket. Should you screw up, it's he/she that will take the fall.
Good Luck
