Where can I get good insurance leads?

Posted by admin On December - 21 - 2008

I sell Contractors Insurance for roofers, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, etc. I sell general liability, workers comp., tool coverage, commercial auto, etc. Where and how can I find some good leads of contractors who need insurance or need to renew their current insurance?

There are a number of companies that sell business leads or mailing lists, most have Internet access for a monthly fee.

I've used this to extract businesses by SIC codes in a given area and then you apply your favorite marketing method: dial for dollars, targeted mailing, drop in and visit, whatever works for you.

Start x-dating, find good businesses to write, then write them; there you go, you now have the MBA course in agency building. Good luck.

i'm a domestic/commercial electrician and i am looking to get a job in the united states. how do i go about it?

You could try to apply for a visa at the embassy, but most often you need to get a job in the US at a company that is willing to sponsor your visa. But this can be very difficult to do.

Question for trade union workers?

Posted by admin On December - 15 - 2008

I am going to be a union commercial electrician and I know that as a apprentice you can get lots of overtime but once your a journeyman do you still get overtime or do you get less?
Also how hard is it to transfer to a new local in a new city?

Depends on weather your a journeyman that can earn the nick name of pockets or be a real asset to the company your employed by. That and earning the confidence of an employer and availability of jobs dictate how much over time one gets.

As for transferring from one local to another it is not hard. Call the future local and find out what their fees are in relationship to a transfer to their area and please ask about the availability of work. That will make your search efforts more productive.

My son is an operator and they just had a new guy transfer from West Virginia to here and the local charged him $150.00. For what I am unsure but it was that easy.

Best way to install a window a/c unit?

Posted by admin On December - 12 - 2008

As an electrician, I've installed pad mounted a/c's, rooftop residential and commercial a/c's, NEVER have installed a window unit. Anyone know how to properly do this? It's freckin HOT & HUMID in the house I'm renting from a slumlord (nice house and neighborhood, IMPOSSIBLE to get him to fix anything) in California (So Cal). Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

It's really simple. Small ones just pop into the window, you pull the window down, put the brackets undermeath it so that it's supported on the outside against the wall or window sill with about 1/4 inch slant down so it drains and pull the slider thingies to each side and you're done. I drill a hole in the top side of the botttom window and put a nail through so that someone cannot just push the window up. I also cut the packing foam and put it behind the side slider thingies so that the hot air can't get in there. You're supposed to put a long thin piece of foam underneath the a/c to stop air flow and I put another one between the top of the bottom part of the window and the top window pane. If you don't get the slider thingies, you will have to cut plywood or whatever is necessary to fill in the sides. You can also put 2×4's or whatever is necessary for support in the back. I try to anchor the heck out of everything so that they are not easy to get out and burglers get in. I guess someone tried to push one of mine in and when they couldn't get it pushed in, they stabbed the a/c and watched all the freon come out. I had a friend repair it and he puts in red dye with the freon so it's easy to spot the next would be thief. Lots of luck. You can also go online and get instructions for the proper installation of your unit from the maker.
