I got a call from my local electrician union about thier apprenticeship program. Saying I was accepted into it if I want to take the opportunity.
Sounds nice but around here the top pay is seems to be roughly $20 an hour, and I would be starting off at around $11 an hour (what the fact sheet they gave me when I interviewed with them), I currently make about $14 an hour and If I wanted to move up I could make $20+ an hour with in 5-10 years which it would take about 5 years if not even more to break even $18 dollars an hour.
Another program I have been looking into is a lineman program offered by a local company that powers 45% or more of my state, they will pay for school and will have a job with them starting around $18 an hour (after all the schooling) and seems that once you get 5 year of exp you can easily make 30+ an hour, I am not in bad shape and could pass the climbing and get into the program and pass the schooling as well.
I would love anyone view on this
One major problem with the Union is that I am afraid that I could easily be inbetween jobs for months. While with the local power company they are really hurting with workers and everything is paid( schooling, clothing etc), Also would seem that I would have a steady 40 hours week with call ins and whatnot if a problem would occur
Mostly wrong about the top being 20 dollars an hour but it is atleast 10-15 dollars less and alot safer then line work
When I worked for other people I was a staunch union member. Having a job is never stable. Employers never pay you what your worth. There are those that have discovered a plan B. Go to push.topgunsuccess.com
